BROADCAST DIRECTOR StANDARDS

(These are starting points not rules. Every situation calls for creative attention.)

Attend worship and production huddle at 6:15 Thursday and 8:15 Sunday in the green room. It is important for you to be part of the production meeting which follows pre-service prayer to review the order of service to know what will happen throughout the day.

It is your responsibility to get the shots desired out of the camera operators. Push them towards excellence.

Cameras shouldn’t have to change exposure once service starts. The ideal scenario is that stage lights are what change exposure. Camera 1 may need exposure adjustments depending on screen. Camera 1 can set the exposure standard for Cameras 2 and 3. All cameras should have the same settings for message.

MESSAGE AND HOST MOMENTS:

Open and close on wide shot.

Stay on Camera 1 for 90% of message.

Camera 1 should only used for preacher and hosts.

Avoid shots that show an empty room.

Switch to wide shots when audience is responding or screen needs to be seen.

Don’t stay on any other camera angle longer that 5 seconds.

Stay on Camera 1 during lower third graphics.

Avoid shots where speaker’s back is to the camera.

If adjustments need to be made on a camera that is live, cut away from it for the adjustment moment.

WORSHIP:

Camera 1 should only used for preacher and hosts.

Open and close each song on wide shot unless instrument is obvious transition.

Avoid shots that show an empty room.

Much faster editing pace that message. No more than 5 seconds on any shot except for a singer or communicator.

Stay on song leader 75% of each song.

Cut to instrument shots during interludes.
