clearing the clutter
Hey Peak City Family,
What an exciting time in the life of our church as we enter into this new year, and we’ve officially kicked off 21 days of prayer and fasting! I’m pumped to see what God is going to do in your life during this season. Fasting is one of the most countercultural things we can do in a world that tells us to constantly consume, scroll, and go, go, go. It’s not easy to unplug from the noise or to put down the fork, but here’s the thing: fasting isn’t about what you’re giving up—it’s about what you’re making room for.
One of my favorite quotes about fasting comes from Richard Foster: “More than any other single discipline, fasting reveals the things that control us.” How true is that? The moment we give up something—whether it’s food, social media, or Netflix—our cravings scream at us. But those cravings are an opportunity. They show us what we’ve been relying on instead of God.
This first week is all about clearing the clutter. Think of your life like a junk drawer (yes, the one in your kitchen). It’s stuffed with things you don’t even need—rubber bands, takeout menus, and batteries that probably don’t work anymore. Fasting helps us sort through the clutter and make space for what really matters: God’s presence, His Word, and His voice.
This week, whenever you feel the absence of what you’re fasting from, take a deep breath and invite God into that space. Pray, “God, I’m making space for You. Fill me with Your peace, Your guidance, and Your presence.” You’ll be amazed at how He shows up. If you are looking for a Bible plan to jump into, don’t forget to sign up for the Peak City Bible Reading Plan. Let’s lean into this together and start the year strong.
Can’t wait to see you all this weekend!
